Jamaica 0121 festival successfully celebrates 60 years of Independence in Birmingham
Thousands of people gathered in Aston park to celebrate sixty years of independence over the Weekend. The festival named Jamaica 0121 saw the streets of the inner city town lined with a see of cars and supporters of Jamaican culture.
The event promised Live Bands, Performing Artists, DJs, Jamaican Cuisine and a variety of stalls. Rum punch, renditions of Reggae legend Bob Marley and the stream of black green and yellow gave out an atmosphere of patriotism and unity.
The event was deemed a success by attendees and appeared to go ahead with minimal trouble as there was no press record of police incidents in the park.
The first day was filled with competent performances from local and live artists stemming from KDotti and Father Hovis but, Sunday saw the crowd come out in its masses.
Established acts like Wayne Marshall, Dawn Penn, Yellow Man and Freddie McGregor blessed the stage, singing well known international hits that entertained the crowd. A larger crowd stayed for longer to appreciate them. However several people spoke of the inability to hear some of the live performances when positioned away from the stage.
Sandra spoke on her time at the festival,
" It was a great weekend and although I couldn't hear Yellow Man too good, I enjoy myself"
The event was put on by Dean Alexander and featured the right balance of local and international talent. With slight adjustments to enhance sound quality and the continued interest in sponsors, the Jamaica 0121 Festival is on track to be the biggest ever cultural celebration to take place in Birmingham, not just Aston as it initially promised to be.

As word spread, we began receiving requests for specific items from homelands far-afield: Spices, oils, drinks and snacks that helped people stay connected to their cultures. We love that food helps to bring people together!
